Around 1980 the Socratic Dialogue was introduced in the Netherlands. Now there are about 25 Dutch facilitators. Most of them are united in a `network`, born out of the desire to exchange and learn from each other´s experiences (`intervision´) and so to improve their skills in facilitating Socratic Dialogues. Another purpose of the network is to promote the different forms of Socratic Dialogue, with different participants, but also in the context of business consultancy. In the network many aspects of the method of the Socratic Dialogue have been investigated; new 'arrangements' for Socratic Dialogue and training programs for facilitators have been developed. This has been stimulated by the circumstance that all have experience in the application of the Socratic Dialogue in the context of business consultancy. Besides this, Socratic Dialogues are also offered in secondary and higher education and in adult education. In cooperation with the British and German societies sponsoring Socratic Dialogue the Dutch network has organised the international conference in Leusden in 1998. Several facilitators have facilitated Socratic Dialogues abroad, in English, German and French, have contributed to quite a few international conferences and have trained Socratic facilitators abroad. The network is not formalised in an association or society. Currently the Dutch Society for Philosophical Practice (VFP) which has recently celebrated its 10th birthday has a proposal in preparation to start a subdivision that is dedicated to the Socratic Dialogue. Once this subdivision has been established, the network will become part of this society.
